dc.description.abstract | This study investigated communicationpatternsasfactorsofjobperformanceofstaffin academic libraries in Niger State. The study aimed at determining the communicationpatternsasfactorsofjobperformanceofstaff in academic libraries, in Niger State. Tivo hypotheses wereformulated and tested at O. 05 level ofsignificance. Survey research design was used with the target population of 355 staff in the 14 institutions of higher learning. Total population was used for the study because the population is small and manageable. The communication patterns o; job performance ofstaffin academic libraries in Niger State questionnaire was designed, validated and administered on the entire staffin the academic libraries. Response rate showed that 260 copies ofthe questionnaire werefilled and returned in usableform. Descriptive and inferential statistics (Pearson Product Moment Correlation) to answer research questions while respectively PPMC was used to test the two Null hypotheses. Result ofthe study showed that the librarians provided avenuesfor in-service training like workshops, conferences, and seminars to staff. The librarians were accommodating, easy to deal with and easy to be contacted. The librarians were democratic, they consult with their subordinates to get their opinions before taking major decisions. The study recommends that head librarians should delegate responsibilities andprovideavenuesfor trainings through workshops, conferences and seminars in libraries where these are notpracticed. Adequatefund should be allocated to academic libraries in Niger State enable them procure library materials and toolsforeffectivejobperformance. The academic libraries in Niger State should encourage free flow of communication both; vertical and horizontal as it enables subordinates to perform duties efficiently. | en_US |
