Abstract: | The study on, Impact of practical Application of mathematics on Senior Secondary School Students' Interest and Achieve-molt in Algebra in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarcrwa State. It was On afferripi to ascertain the influence of practical approach on students' interest in learning Algebra in senior secondary school and to determine the effect of practical approach on male and female students' achfrivment in Algebra. The study used quasi-orperimentof design. 1,17 3cnicir secanda•li two students (415 far Experimental group and 72 for cnntroi group) were used The Isipenmentai group were expose to practical application algebra. while the control group were taught using conventional method. The instrument used for data alneaffill WCFe ,kfaihemaiir3 Achievement rest (MAn and Mathematics Intercsi Assessment Test 044 fl with the talallthO• CilleffiCiefff of 0.86 and 0_63 using Kuder-Richardson formula 20 and Cronbach Alpha coefficient respeetiveh% Four hpotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Analysis of Covariance (44NCOVA) was runt in test hypotheses I & 3 and independent samples 1-test was used to test hypotheses 2 if 4 Results from the study revealed that students taught mathematics using Me practical application teaching method achieved higher but showed little or no greater interest in learning mathematics Man those taught with copwentianai teaching approach The study aim) Terealed that both 'flak and female students in ersaerimental group achieved the same and &so showed similar interest in mathematics. The study recommended among others that teacher education institutions. should be encouraged to include practical application as a method in leaching secondary school mathematics since their interest is likely to increase if well applied_ Keywords: Practical Application, Senior Secondary School Students, Interest, Achievement. |
