Abstract: In the recent time, there is rapid change in the methods of implementing distance education, and these changes are direct influence of different technologies used over the years. This paper attempts to identify some of the challenges impeding the effective implementation of distance learning in the 21st century. It explains the characteristics of distance learning and how emerging technology can be effectively employed to bring about the desired learning outcomes among learners. The study highlights the Pros and Cons of distance learning, and suggestions for maximizing its advantages are as well discussed.
