Abstract: This study investigated the life of HSS cutting tool while turning mild steel material. It employed statistical experimental design method to develop a predictive tool life model using a centre composite design of experiment (CCD) comprising of (15) experiments. First order and second order tool life model were developed with 95% confidence level. The results obtained from the statistical model are in good agreement with that obtained from the statistical data, with average percentage error of 7% which reasonably acceptable. Based on ANOVA results, the cutting speed, depth of cut and rake angle were significant factors that influenced tool life.
