Abstract: | This paper identifies risk associated with the various stages of the road construction project according to the process protocol thinking in Nigeria. The rationale for this study stems from thefact that risk is present at every stage of the road construction project and the unproductive mess of road construction process using the traditional method of risk management resulting in under delivery of project goals and objectives. The study employed a qualitative methodology approach and data were collected through the questionnaire survey administered to professionals working in civil engineering organisations in Abuja to identify risk at the pre-project stage of the process protocol. A sample size of 60 was used and 46 were returned which gives a response rate of 76%. Data collected were subjected to descriptive analysis; risks associated with road projects were identified and ranked. Payment delays and cash flow problems ranked 1st respectively in the two cases studied. The study concludes that risk identification is very critical in any road construction project and proper risk identification helps professionals to decide and take adequate measures too to achieve project goals |
