Urbanization is a global challenge causing different types of problems across the world (UN Habitat, 2015). Problems of urbanization have engineered natural and man-made disasters, which have in turn, threatened the lives and properties of the people living in both urban and rural areas. This is because, the urban population interacts with the environment which is enhanced by the change infused by the urban dwellers through consumption of food, energy, water, and land (UN-Habitat, 2016). This has affected the health, wellbeing, and quality of life; and has also caused many environmental problems such as global warming, flood, desertification, land slide, earthquake, and drought, thereby causing displacement of persons both locally and internationally. Internally displaced persons have attracted global interest owing to the level of its occurrence; and the adverse effect that it has on the social, cultural, political and economic life of the affected persons (IDMC, 2014). In the early 1950s, it was predominant to hear issues of refugees owing to the rise in conflicts between nations. This resulted in the establishment of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), which began operations in 1950. (UN-Habitat, 2015).en_US
