Abstract: | Academic Excellence is creating and sustaining an atmosphere where scholars scrutinize reality with the methods proper to each academic discipline, in order to contribute to the treasury of human knowledge, and a place where all of its members work towards a higher synthesis of knowledge dedicated to the search for truth and brought about in a dialogue between reality and reason. It is an organizational culture that uses scientific outcomes, measurement, systematic management techniques, and collaboration to achieve the mission of the institution. Academic excellence can be achieved in various fields of human endeavor; hence the paper focuses on academic excellence in higher education. It defines Academic Excellence, the need, and discusses some basic standards necessary for institutions to attain academic excellence. It is important that for an institution to excel academically, all the stake holders—students, faculty, and the administration, should be totally committed to academic excellence principles that should be implemented holistically. |
