Abstract: Due to the numerous technical skills and vocational knowledge that abound in the field of Vocational and Technical Education, it has been acknowledge by various governments in various countries as the true solution to the reduction of extreme poverty and unemployment. These opportunities however have not been fully utilized in Nigeria due to unfavourable policy issues. This paper gave a criticism of the National Policy on Education with reference to Vocational and Technical Education in Nigeria. The paper gave a general overview of policy, policy issues, characteristics of good policy and also clarified concept of Vocational and Technical Education in Nigeria. The paper also identified the strength, weakness and opportunities of the National Policy on Education with Respect to Vocational and Technical Education in Nigeria. Suggested policy to be included in the National Policy on Education on Vocational and Technical Education in Nigeria was also proposed. Conclusion and recommendations were also made to enhance effective National Policy on Education with Respect to Vocational and Technical Education in Nigeria.
