dc.description.abstract | This study was conducted to investigate the Mathematics teachers’ workload and motivation as determinant of secondary school students’ performance and attitude in Mathematics in Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. In execution of the above stated objectives, seven research questions and four hypotheses were generated to achieve the objectives of this study. Correlational survey research design was employed in this study. A total number of 154 Mathematics teachers and corresponding Mathematics students were sampled for this study. Simple random sampling was involved in this study. Three instrument were used in this study which consists of the Mathematics Teachers Workload Scale(MTWS), Mathematics Teachers Motivation Scale (MTMS) in two cluster and Students Attitude Scale (SAS and also students’ cumulative academic assessment (test). The Cronbach Alpha reliability of MTWS, MTMS and SAS as determined by the research was 0.849 and 0.846. Research questions were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and scatter plot, while the four hypotheses were tested using SPSS Linear Regression Analysis 27.0. Findings from the study showed that there are high level of Mathematics teachers workload and Mathematics teachers motivation in secondary school with the mean scores above 2.5, high level of students’ attitude to learning Mathematics as mean score above 2.5, there was no significant relationship between Mathematics teachers’ workload and secondary school students’ performance at R =.122, R2 = 0.015, P>0.05, there was no significant positive relationship between Mathematics teachers’ motivation and students’ performance at R = .047, R2 = 0.027 P>0.05, there was no significant relationship between Mathematics teachers’ workload and students’ attitude in the secondary school at R = .031, R2 = 0.001, P>0.05, there is no significant relationship between Mathematics teachers’ motivation and secondary school students’ attitude at R = .109, R2 = 0.012. It was therefore recommended that government and administrators should reduce workload of Mathematics teachers and improve on their salary, incentive and allowance. Mathematics teachers should put in place problem-solving instructional strategy when dealing with problem in Mathematics that are associated with calculation formula and its simplification to improve secondary school students’ performance and attitude in Mathematics. | en_US |
