Abstract: The study aimed at identifying the level of health, safety, and environmental compliance as well as the challenges preventing effective safety compliance in the material supply chain in the construction industry. The study utilises purposive sampling to pick 22 construction sites for the investigation. 250 questionnaires were distributed among the construction professionals. The gathered data was analysed with the aid of frequency, percentages, mean index score, and ranking. The outcome of the study reveals a high level of health, safety, and environmental compliance among the construction professionals, with a mean index score of 2.6686. Also, the study findings showed that human error, stakeholder will, bribery, and corruption were the major challenges preventing effective compliance with health and safety practices in the building construction industry in Abuja. In conclusion, effective health and safety compliance is vital for the reduction of occupational hazards. The study suggested, among others, that the government, through her relevant agency checkmate, bribery and corruption in health and safety compliance in the industry.
