Abstract: | The study determined the effects of YouTube instructional video on secondary school students’ achievement in Agricultural Science in Niger State. The study adopted a pretest, posttest research design. The sample size consisted of 120 students selected from 4 secondary schools in Niger State. Two schools were assigned to experimental group and two for control group. Agricultural Science Achievement Test (AAT) was used for the collection of data. The research instrument was validated by three experts in the field of science education. The reliability of the instrument was carried out using Cronbach Alpha formula and the reliability co-efficient was found to be 0.87. The data were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while ANCOVA statistic was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that the experimental group had a mean of 27.73 and performed significantly better than the control group with a mean of 15.98. The study further revealed that there was no significant difference in the mean performance of male and female students who were taught by means of YouTube video instruction, the study recommended the use of YouTube video instruction by teachers as a way of improving students' performance. Also, provision of computer laboratory/equipment and internet facilities, educational software, e-library and e-resource would help to reduce the abstractness of some concepts in Agricultural Science. |
