This paper presents the comparative analysis of the imported LM14 piston with locally cast ones for a reciprocating Freon compressor. The approach adopted in producing the piston is that of copy technology in which the imported piston was subjected to composition and mechanical test to discover the elements present and its mechanical properties. The test revealed that the imported piston made is from LM14 aluminum alloy having low magnesium and zinc content. Scraps of imported compressor piston were melted for casting in a permanent mould using local crucible furnace. The cast piston was equally subjected to composition, mechanical properties test. Heat treatment was carried out on the cast piston to improve the mechanical. The cast pistons compared favorably with imported ones.en_US
