Abstract: | The leaves, stem bark and root bark of Vitex doniana were gradient extracted and subjected to phytochemical and bacterial screening. The presence of various phytochemicals in the extracts was observed. The sensitivity test carried out on Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli gave zones of inhibition ranging from 4-20mm in most of the extracts. The Minimum Inhibition Concentration(MIC) was 1000 µg/cm3 while maximum MIC was 2000µg/cm3 for the bacteria used. Analysis of the bark extract revealed the presence of α-terpineol |
